Congratulations, Leila! I read your interview and I can completely identify with your struggle in balancing life and work. I wish I could offer you some magic curative advice, but I believe you are “doing it” the right way already, even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. Multi-tasking is completely over-rated and doesn’t really work anyway. I believe that focused effort without distractions is the only way to work, especially when a three year old is involved. My kids are in school now, which has given me extra time, so I send you a glimmer of hope, that those days are coming to you soon enough. Right now, you are right to spend and savor the time you have with him, because it is such a precious time that you will never get it back. I read Brene Brown’s words to boost myself, when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Grief and depression are not strangers to my life, and I know how debilitating they can be. But, they must be faced and if this means that you have to make room in your life to address them, then that’s what you have to do. I’m glad that you have made it through some hard times and you have been able to pick up the pencil again. I think if anything good has come from my own suffering, it’s that life is short, and there’s no time to worry if what I did was good enough. As Brene would say, “Quick and dirty wins the race. Perfection is the enemy of done. Good enough is really effin’ good.” Best wishes to you, my talented friend!
